研究方向
•古病毒学:这是一个新兴的研究领域,主要是研究病毒的远古史(百万年尺度上的进化)和宏进化。一些病毒可以整合到宿主基因组中形成内源性病毒元件,这些病毒元件记录了过去发生的病毒感染,为研究病毒的远古史提供了“分子化石”。我们实验室主要通过挖掘真核生物基因组中的内源性病毒元件来研究病毒的远古史以及内源性病毒元件对宿主生物学的影响。
•病毒短期进化:利用进化生物学和群体遗传学的方法来研究病毒短期进化的模式,研究问题包括如何利用不同时间点收集的病毒来研究病毒进化的速度和方式,新发流行病(如艾滋病)何时何地如何起源并传遍全世界,病毒变异如何影响新发流行病的爆发等。
•病毒组学:目前已知的病毒种类只占整个病毒圈(virosphere)的很少一部分,大量的病毒“暗物质”仍需要进行分类和阐释。我们实验室利用新一代测序技术系统地研究病毒的多样性、发现新病毒、归纳病毒序列空间、解析病毒的进化,进而理解病毒多样性与宿主/生态系统之间的相互关系。
•进化冲突:进化冲突普遍存在于生命活动各个层面上,从社会到个体到基因组中的不同遗传元件。进化冲突往往会导致一场“适应-反适应”不停循环的军备竞赛(arms race),这也就是所谓的“红皇后假说”(Red Queenhypothesis)。我们实验室主要关注病毒和宿主之间以及自私DNA元件(即转座子)和宿主基因组之间的进化冲突,利用进化生物学和实验生物学方法来研究这些进化冲突的机制。
•进化基因组学:我们实验室在该方向上的研究兴趣比较广泛,主要是围绕着基因组复杂性的进化进行的,研究内容包括水平基因转移、长期进化实验、作物基因组进化、系统发生学等。
